Raising Plant-Based Babies, With Else Nutrition

Vegan, vegetarian, plant-based. It's a growing thing as people become more aware of both the ethical and health issues accompanied with animal or animal byproducts. Nonetheless, I always get questions pertaining to how we raise kids this way and how they manage to get proper nutrition on such a diet.

For the most part, it's been second nature because I was plant-sed myself proper to ever having kids — the only tricky phase and component was post weaning from breastfeeding and finding adequate milk alternatives. There aren't many non-dairy options on the market in the way of formulas especially and in that transitional year in particular, many nut milks lack one nutritional need or another for growing babies/toddler.

Else Nutrition introduce the first ever formula that is free from dairy, gluten, soy, corn syrup and GMOs. It’s a lot to take in, thinking how many products that are regularly given to kids — have some or all of that, and more.

Else’s product consists of 3 primary ingredients: organic almonds, organic tapioca, and organic buckwheat. The remainder of the makeup is comprised of chemical-free, whole food ingredients. These are highly digestible for sensitive tummies and contain a long list of vitamins, minerals, and prebiotics.

All of this makes it a great option for N (18 months) who is plant based & strictly gluten free, but being jam packed with essential nutrients and healthy fats make it the ideal supplemental product for R (5 years). N drinks it predominantly as a formula despite being beyond the traditional formula-drinking age.

She has it at least once a day to fill any gaps in her diet that come with the territory of feeding the dog, dropping food, and sometimes turning her nose up at things and also to make up for the shortcomings of other non-dairy milks we offer in our home (almond, soy, or oat).

R could easily have it by the glass as a milk alternative as well, but is more inclined to use it as the great milk stand in that it is, for smoothies or an oatmeal bowl.

*Just be sure to pre-prepare it as a liquid and as directed, not toss it in dry, unless used in cooked goods.

While this in partnership with Else Nutrition, I would never share something that is so heavily a personal-choice if I didn’t truly, truly trust it for my own family. This product has really been that something ELSE in helping us make sure the kids’ nutrition is complete. I highly recommend it, especially to parents of children with alternative diets.
